Fien Troch’s favourite films

"It’s a challenge for me to express what cinema should be or do, why a film ended up in this list or not. Knowing that for me a good film should give in some way an insight in life, in myself, in cinema, I made my choices in an intuitive way. Bresson made me think differently about emotions, Wiseman gave me an insight in daily life, Drive made me fall in love with an enormous emptiness and Andrea Arnolds made me dream … every film I chose did something, gave me something, changed me. They also often had a disturbing effect. Some in a sweet gentle way, some brutally and with others the feeling only sneaked in days later … The luxury of being confused and shaken by art. All these treasures helped me fo find myself as a director and to understand and express my relationship with the world and with others.
