Shirin hides her bisexuality from her Persian family while navigating heartbreak and the messy search for belonging in this sharp, wry comedy.
Synopsis
Desiree Akhavan's directing debut takes us into the lively world of Shirin, daughter of exiled Iranians. Nobody in her family can know that she is into women.
In her Indie Spirit Award nominated directorial debut APPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR, helmer-writer-star Desiree Akhavan shows the humorous and often touching confusion of a love life torn between modern LGBT emancipation and traditional Iranian family values.
"For Shirin, being part of a perfect Persian family isn't easy. Acceptance eludes her from all sides: her family doesn't know she's bisexual, and her ex-girlfriend, Maxine, can't understand why she doesn't tell them." (Sundance Film Festival)
