The Fever

A Febre

Directed by Maya Da-Rin

Trailer

The devastating effects of capitalism, colonialism and the church - the three big Cs - on indigenous communities are the focus of this debut film.

Synopsis

Justino, an indigenous Dasana, worked for two decades in the port city of Manaus, located in the Amazon rainforest. Like many others, he was drawn to the prospect of work. But indigenous Amazonians find themselves torn between their source of income in the city, and their source of power in the rainforest. Things come to a head with the advent of a strange new type of fever, a mysterious animal that kills livestock, and the arrival of his daughter, who is studying medicine in Brasilia. Veteran director Maya Da-Rin explores the dividing lines between urban and rural, the indigenous and the colonial, in a documentary feature film format.
